How do I do a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test?

Please note, these are abbreviated instructions. Always read the in-pack leaflet before carrying out a test.

When you are ready to do your Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test, simply remove the one-piece Test Stick from its individual foil wrapper and take off the cap. With the tip pointing downwards, hold the Absorbent Sampler in your urine stream for 5 seconds. Alternatively, you can collect a sample of your urine in a clean, dry container and immerse the Absorbent Sampler in the urine for 20 seconds only.

When the urine sample is applied to the Absorbent Sampler it is detected by the test. A flashing ‘Wait’ symbol (egg timer) is shown on the Display demonstrating that the test is working correctly. Within 3 minutes the symbol stops flashing and the result will appear.

The Display will show a ‘Pregnant’ or ‘Not Pregnant’ result. This result will continue to be shown on the Display for approximately 24 hours.

How does a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test work?

When you become pregnant, your body produces the pregnancy hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG). The amount of hCG in your body doubles every 2 – 3 days, and reaches a maximum at around 7 – 12 weeks into the pregnancy. It stays at a higher than normal level for the rest of the pregnancy, and for up to 3 weeks after giving birth. The level of hCG can be elevated above normal levels for up to 9 weeks if you have had a miscarriage or a termination.

It is this hormone that Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test detects in your urine.  You can use Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test as early as 4 days before your period is due.

With a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test, an optical reader encased in the Test Stick interprets the result for you and shows your result in words: ‘Pregnant’ or ‘Not Pregnant’.

When can I use a Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test?

Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test can be used up to 4 days before your period is due. If you test before your period is due and get a ‘Not Pregnant’ result, there is still a chance that you may be ‘Pregnant’ but that your hormone level is still not high enough for the test to detect. If testing from the day your period is due, you can test any time of the day.  If testing early, use the first urine of the day.

What is the difference between home tests and those done by a doctor?

Many doctors and clinics use home pregnancy tests to verify the results, in which case they are exactly the same. Occasionally, some women may be given a blood test, but they aren’t very different from home pregnancy tests either. Both types look for the presence of H.C.G. in your body.

What should I do with my results?

If your pregnancy test results are positive, you should consult your doctor to discuss your pregnancy and what steps and precautions should be taken next. In addition, if your test is negative and you still suspect you may be pregnant, you may want to confirm your test results with another home pregnancy test a few days later. If you test too early you may get a negative result because not enough of the H.C.G. hormone has built up in your system.

Can anything affect the results of these tests?

Drinking alcohol, painkillers, oral contraceptives, antibiotics and other common drugs will not affect the result of these tests. Only medicines that contain H.C.G. can produce a false positive result. If you are unsure about your result or your period has still not arrived you should see your doctor for advice.
